Lord Mayor Magid invited to inspire Rotherham folk

THE OUTSPOKEN mayor who has put Sheffield on the map is crossing the borough border to inspire people in Rotherham.

Lord Mayor Magid Magid will give a talk followed by a question-and-answer session to the town’s “community organisers” at RotherFed’s Eastwood HQ on Saturday, February 2.

The Green party activist turned Sheffield councillor will be attending the meeting from noon to 1pm.

The purpose of the event, running from 11am to 3pm at Springwell Gardens Community Centre off Eastwood View, is a meet-up for community organisers overseen by Rotherfed but it is open to anyone who is currently doing community work or interested in doing so.

Community organiser Vicky Hilton said the long-term aim was to connect people and build a network of community workers, to share ideas and explain what further training and support is on offer.

Rotherham poet Sile and volunteers from Rawmarsh’s Christmas lantern parade project will also be on hand to share their views and experiences.

Places are free but limited and must be booked by emailing [email protected] or calling 01709 368515.
