Loose cows stop traffic on the M1 in Rotherham

COWS caused carnage by running loose on the M1 during the rush hour this morning.

National Highways said the livestock had made their way onto the carriageway around the M1 northbound between Junction 34 at Meadowhall Sheffield and Junction 35 at Thorpe Hesley

As a result, speed limits and lane closures were set initially, but the traffic had to be stopped after a while so police officers could round up the livestock.

Police opened all lanes just before 7am but expected some delays and slow traffic.
