Litter louts hit with fines

COUNCIL chiefs are continuing with their blitz on litter louts hitting offenders with costs and fines of more than £300.

Doncaster Council’s tough stance on littering and smoking offences has resulted in a further 30 prosecutions by magistrates.

Cllr Joe Blackham, Cabinet member for neighbourhoods, enforcement and trading services said: “Dropping litter and smoking in restricted areas is not something we take lightly as we strive to make Doncaster a better place for everyone.

People are aware of the rules and choosing to break them will result in punishment for their actions.

“We work hard to ensure that Doncaster is kept presentable and tidy and that is why we have an ample amount of litter bins available for residents.

“We will continue to clamp down on unacceptable behaviour.”

Among those convicted were:

Wendy McGuire of Chapel Street, Mexborough. The case was proven in her absence. She was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £145.

Simon Scott, Schofield Street, Mexborough. The case was proven in his absence. He was fined £200 and £145 costs.
