LISTEN: ‘Scared’ rapist tries to intimidate victim in secret recording

Mohammed Imran Akhtar (37), of Godstone Road, Rotherham, approached one of his victims in 2015 after seeing other men jailed for CSE offences and asked; “Have the cops got in touch with you?”. 

The woman secretly recorded the encounter — which has now been released by the NCA (below) — in which he can be heard trying to minimise what had happened.

An NCA spokeswoman said Akhtar’s “confident demeanour began to crack”.

He was jailed along with five other men on Friday to a total of 101 years in jail for 22 child sexual exploitation offences, which occurred between 1998 and 2005.

Akhtar can be heard saying to the woman: “What somebody did 20 years ago is now coming and biting them in the arse. People have got jobs now. Whether they do taxis or whether they work in offices..they are married with kids and everything.”

He added: “That time was a different time...like when we used to chill and we used to want the girls to do something with other guys..there might have been times where some boys might have forced you to do something.

“Like when we used to chill, yeah, and we used to want the girls or whatever to do something with other guys, which is Haram (forbidden by Islam) anyway.”

Akhtar added: “When we used to chill, alright, there might have been at times where some boys might have forced you to do something...the action, the Haram action, there might have been a time where it was forced upon you.”

Akhtar also talks to the woman about an incident in which he picked her up from a takeaway in Sheffield because men were trying to force her to have sex — but then went on to sexually assault her in his car.

An NCA spokeswoman added: “Akhtar took the lead in befriending girls before introducing them to his friends. 

“They were plied with drugs and alcohol until they couldn’t remember what was going on and in some instances, were threatened with violence or being transported and abandoned in an unfamiliar location if they didn’t comply with the sexual demands.”
