Legal action underway after travellers take over Rotherham park

ROTHERHAM Council says it has begun legal proceedings to evict travellers from a park in Kimberworth Park – days after the group moved on from Greasbrough, where they are accused of leaving a trail of destruction.

A vandalised, abandoned car was left at Greasbrough Recreation Ground (below) after a fleet of caravans left the site on Wednesday, having arrived last Saturday, while a litter bin and bench were found damaged and litter was strewn across the site.

Residents in Kimberworth Park said later the same day that the caravans had moved onto Barker’s Park, reportedly after breaking locks to gain access.

A spokesperson for Rotherham Council said: “The council and police received reports of caravans arriving at Greasbrough Recreation Ground and enforcement action was taken before the group moved on to Barkers Park.

“The council is working in partnership with the police and legal proceedings have now been started to remove the group from Barkers Park.”
