The 25-year-old will be travelling to Chester this weekend to show her talents in the Miss British Isles competition.

If she wins on Sunday, she will get a modelling contract, her own website and a £3,000 cash prize.

It is her first experience in a beauty competition and she said she was looking forward to the challenge.

Laura, of Rainborough Court in Brampton Bierlow, said she had never thought of going on the catwalk until someone suggested it to her.

The mum-of-one said: “It’s my first time. I feel excited and I’m looking forward to it.

“I was doing the make-up at a competition and the organiser asked me why I wasn’t taking part.

“I got through to the semi-final and then they rang me up saying I had got a wildcard and put me straight into the final.

“I think I just meet the modelling criteria — I’m really tall and really thin.”

Husband Gareth, a vehicle body sprayer, is backing his wife in her new challenge.

She said: “I was wondering what he would think but he is really supportive.

“He says I should do whatever makes me happy.”

But Laura is no stranger to the world of beauty contests from an audience point of view as she has done the make-up for Miss Great Grimsby finalist Anna Stacey.
