Laura Wilson trial: defendant changes plea

THE FORMER lover of a teenage mum accused of stabbing her repeatedly before dumping her body in a canal today dramatically changed his plea to one of guilty to her murder.

Ashtiaq Asghar (18), had previously denied murder along with his co-defendant and friend Ishaq Hussain (22), during a three-week trial.

Student Laura Wilson (17), who had a brief fling with married near neighbour Hussain and gave birth to their daughter in June last year was killed just days after telling his family of the affair.

Sheffield Crown Court heard she previously had a relationship with Asghar, her first love, and wanted to have his children.

The court was told Asghar lured Laura to her death while Hussain allegedly provided a decoy to ensure she was alone.

After the prosecution closed its case, following legal discussions Asghar, of Holmes Lane, Holmes, changed his plea to guilty.

He is now facing life in prison and will be sentenced later.

Hussain, of Ferham Road, Holmes, who denies murder, is still on trial.
