Last-minute reprieve for Rotherham counselling service

A CASH-strapped women’s centre providing vital front-line services has been saved from closure.

Rotherham Women’s Counselling Service felt there was simply no alternative but to inform clients during the final group therapy session that it would be the last.

But it has won a reprieve thanks to a grant from NHS Rotherham and a successful bid for funds from the Home Office.

The centre, on Moorgate Road, Rotherham, has faced an on-going battle to survive for the last year as the recession hit hard.

But now the centre hopes to uset the new money to expand the counselling service to male clients.

RWCS business development manager Sandra Moule said the centre’s vision is for a free, accessible, high quality counselling service for adults who have experienced the trauma of sexual, physical, or psychological abuse.

Organisers aim for counselling to provide a supportive relationship which affords the opportunity of reaching a greater understanding of difficulties to enable clients to live fuller lives.
