Labour success "brilliant" says Rotherham Council leader
COUNCIL poll results mirrored Rotherham’s general election picture, as Labour held on to all of its 19 seats which were up for grabs.
The party also made close contests of Sitwell and Hellaby—both held by the Conservatives.

Hide AdAny threat from the Independents failed to materialise, and the UKIP and BNP candidates had little to shout about either.
After all the 21 results were announced at Magna on Friday, council leader Roger Stone said: “It's gone absolutely brilliantly, last night and today.
“All 19 seats we were defending we have kept, with larger majorities in some cases, and we have given the two Conservative seats a real run for their money.”

Hide AdCabinet members Cllrs Shaun Wright, Gerald Smith, Richard Russell and Jahangir Akhtar all enjoyed comfortable results.
The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Shaukat Ali, was easily re-elected in the Rotherham East ward.
His deputy, Cllr Rose McNeely, won the Boston Castle poll and so will succeed him as mayor in the next few weeks.
