Daniel Allott (30), formerly of High Hazel Crescent, Catcliffe, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court and admitted robbery and two counts of attempted robbery.

He was chased away by a brave staff member after forcing his way into Far Lane post office in March, armed with a kitchen knife.

Two days later, he forced his way into the till and stole cash at a petrol station on Bawtry Road in Canklow before fleeing the scene.

And he held a knife to a taxi driver’s neck in Sheffield the following day — demanding cash — but the cabbie fought back, causing Allott to run off.

Allott was arrested shortly after and charged in May.

PC Emma Blackburn said: “Allott terrorised his victims in a string of armed robberies.

“There is no doubt he is a dangerous individual, and he is quite rightly now off the streets of South Yorkshire for a significant period of time.

“I hope that his sentence acts as a deterrent to those who would consider a life of crime, and I hope the public and his victims can be reassured that we will do whatever we can to tackle shameless criminals and keep our communities safe from them.”
