Keep clear alert by cops as recycling plant blaze rages on

POLICE are urging people to steer clear of the scene of a large blaze at a recycling plant in Rotherham.

People living nearby are aso being told to keep their doors and windows closed.

A fire service spokesman said it was thought that up to 500 tonnes of plastic could be on fire

Five fire crews are dealing with the blaze at the premises on Wharf Road site in Swinton.

Crews from Rotherham, Dearne, Edlington, Aston and Tankersley are currently at the scene after being called at 9.59am.

A fire service spokesperson told the Advertiser said: “There is recycling material involved.”
