Jury out in trial of eight men accused of 27 CSE offences

A JURY has retired to consider its verdicts in the trial of eight men accused of child sexual exploitation offences against five girls.

Seven men from Rotherham, and one from Sheffield, are on trial at Sheffield Crown Court accused of 27 offences said to have taken place between 1998 and 2005.

The trial is part of Operation Stovewood, the National Crime Agency’s investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

The jury retired at 11.20am today (Friday) to consider its verdicts.

Mohammed Imran Akhtar (37), of Godstone Road, Rotherham, faces three counts of indecent assault, one count of rape, supplying a controlled drug to another, procuring a girl to have unlawful sex with another, aiding and abetting Tanweer Ali to commit rape, and sexual assault.

Ajmal Rafiq (39), of Warwick Street, Rotherham, faces one count of indecent assault and one count of false imprisonment.

Nabeel Kurshid (34), of Weetwood Road, Rotherham, faces two counts of rape and one of indecent assault.

 Asif Ali (33), of Clough Road, Rotherham, faces three counts of indecent assault.

 Iqlak Yousaf (34), of Tooker Road, Rotherham, faces two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault.

 Salah El-Hakam (39), of Tudor Close, Sheffield, faces one count of rape.

 Tanweer Ali (37), of Godstone Road, Rotherham, faces two counts of indecent assault, two counts of rape, and one count of false imprisonment.

Another man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces three counts of rape and one of child abduction.

All of the men deny the charges.
