Jury discharged in 'Meadowhall scene' CSE trial

A JURY has been discharged in the trial of three men accused of ten child sexual exploitation offences against two schoolgirls.

Yasir Iqbal Hussain (37), of Norborough Road, Tinsley, Azad Akram Raja (37), of Adney Street, Sheffield, and Faisel Hussain (33), of Lovetot Road, Kimberworth, had been on trial at Sheffield Crown Court for four weeks.

They had been accused of abusing schoolgirls in the early 2000s around the “Meadowhall scene” — a reference to the shopping centre — when the girls could have been as young as 13 and the defendants were aged between 15 and 20.

Raja was accused of three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault against the first complainant, Girl A, between April 2001 and April 2004.

Yasir Hussain was accused of one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault against the same girl.

Faisel Hussain faced two counts of indecent assault against a second girl (Girl B) between January and June 2003.

Judge David Dixon discharged the jury today (Thursday) at his discretion after they had been deliberating for two-and-a-half days.

A hearing will be held on December 10 to decide whether a re-trial should take place.
