'Joyrider' injured after police chase crash

AN ALLEGED joyrider suffered a broken leg after crashing into a wall while being chased by police.

The 22-year-old refused to pull over on Station Road, Thurnscoe, and went the wrong way around a traffic island.

He lost control of the black VW Bora on Houghton Road and careered into a wall, suffering a broken leg and possible internal injuries.

Fire crews from Dearne and Penistone cut off the vehicle’s roof to free him.

The passengers, men aged 18 and 19, were also taken to Barnsley Hospital but not detained.

The car was being stopped after a report of a theft from Barrowfield Road.

Police would like to hear from anyone with information about an alleged theft, the manner of driving of the Bora and the crash itself.

Call South Yorkshire Police on 01142 202020, quoting incident 1064 of the October 26.
