Jeremy Beadle bursaries aid Rotherham students

THREE young academics are preparing to further their education with the help of former TV prankster and presenter Jeremy Beadle.

A charitable trust set up following the death of the one-time candid camera star’s death in January 2008 has been issuing bursaries to people entering education from non-traditional backgrounds ever since.

This week the Rotherham-based Jeremy Beadle Morthyng Memorial Trust handed out £3,000 to three people destined for university careers.

Natasha Anne Kitchen (21), of Rawmarsh, received £1,000 for books stationery and laptop to assist with LLB Criminology course at Staffordshire University.

Connie Evelyn Birks (23), of Rockingham, will use her £1,000 to assist with travel costs for BSc (Hons) Criminology and Forensic Investigation course at the University of Lincoln.

Jamie Lillie (20), from Sheffield, will invest in a laptop, books and stationery to assist with course in Interdisciplinary Sciences at Leeds University with his £1,000.

Ann Lawrence, Chair of Trustees at the Jeremy Beadle Morthyng Memorial Trust, said: “These are three young people who will no doubt do well in their chosen subjects and it is gratifying to know that the fund set up in Jeremy's name will assist them to reach their potential.”

The Jeremy Beadle Morthyng Memorial Trust reflects the interest that Jeremy and his family showed in Rotherham where, for several years, he hosted charitable quiz evenings supported by Doctor in the House star George Layton.

Quiz nights with actor George Layton are still held at the Carlton Park Hotel in aid of the cause and the proceeds are still helping people gain an education.
