BOSTON Castle stalwart Janet Worrall has been named Volunteer of the Year at Voluntary Action Rotherham's community achievement awards.
Janet, secretary of Friends of Boston Castle and Parklands, said: “There were some wonderful young volunteers and community groups who dedicate many hours working to improve our communities and offering support.
“Against stiff competition, I was very proud to be awarded the volunteer award in connection with my work over the past ten years, which resulted in the restoration of Boston Castle.”
Work on the 18th century former hunting lodge was completed in the summer after the building stood derelict for several years.
Heritage talks, jewellery making and art classes are among the activities planned for the coming months now the castle has re-opened.
Jonathon Kirk collected the award for Young Volunteer, open to under 25s.
Jonathon volunteers at Broom Valley Allotments, assisting visually impaired gardeners to tend their allotments as well as being involved in young people’s activities through his role as a volunteer Scout leader.
In the Project category, the winner was Friends of Clifton Park, a volunteer project which aims to protect and develop Clifton Park and keep it safe for future generations.
An awards ceremony, organised by Voluntary Action Rotherham on behalf of Rotherham Partnership, was held at the Carlton Park Hotel.
