Jake in line for top apprenticeship prize

A TEENAGE apprentice and the Rotherham company he works for have been put forward for two top awards.

Bramall Construction is shortlisted for best large employer and 18-year-old plasterer Jake Seddon is up for apprentice of the year at the Apprenticeship Awards.

Businesses from across the region have been singled out for the ceremony in Leeds on Thursday, organised by the National Apprenticeship Service.

NAS regional director Nick Wilson said: “This year’s awards and the outstanding calibre of entries we’ve received, illustrate the terrific strides that continue to be made within apprenticeships across the region.

“Apprenticeships are the lifeblood of the region's economy, bringing many benefits to businesses in the current climate and giving young people the practical skills and qualifications they need to pursue a dream career.

“I’d like to congratulate all apprentices and employers across South Yorkshire for being shortlisted and wish them the very best of luck.”

Hundreds of apprentices, employers and business leaders will be there on Thursday to help celebrate the winners, who will go on to the national awards in July.

Apprenticeships offer young people a training route which combines work-based learning with theory and a recognised qualification.

Employers benefits in hiring an apprentice include motivated, skilled staff and increased productivity. More than 31,000 people started apprenticeship schemes in Yorkshire and the Humber last year.
