A PAEDOPHILE who was caught on CCTV sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl has been warned that he might be going to prison.
Simon Windle (47), made the girl take puffs of his cigarette before touching her sexually, Sheffield Crown Court heard.
He had initially denied any wrongdoing when he was interviewed by the police but admitted one count of sexual assault of a child under 13 at a hearing in May last year.
Mr Craig David Lowe, prosecuting, said Windle had been with the girl when she was playing outside with her friends in Rotherham on May 13, 2019.
The girls had been sat on some steps outside a house and Windle had been crouched down in front of them smoking a cigarette.
A neighbour saw Windle offering the cigarette to the girl and saw her take a puff on it, Mr Lowe said.
The neighbour confronted Windle and he told her that the girl could “smoke if she wants to”.
The neighbour told Windle she had cameras and she would be telling the girl’s parents about what she had seen, Mr Lowe said.
The neighbour watched the CCTV and saw the neighbour had repeatedly offered his cigarette to her and on other occasions had blown smoke in her face.
Windle was then seen to blow smoke up the girl’s skirt and later put his hand up her skirt, Mr Lowe said.
The girl’s father watched the CCTV and then confronted Windle about what he had seen.
The girl spoke to the police and told them that she had told Windle she did not want any of his cigarette but he had put it in her mouth anyway.
She told police that Windle had sexually touched her.
Windle admitted one count of sexual assault of a child under 13 at a hearing on May 20 last year.
Judge Roger Thomas delayed sentencing so the girl could be given the chance to write a victim impact statement.
He said: “I find this to be a deeply unpleasant offence, and one in which you could well end up with a prison sentence even if it’s not of any great length.”
Windle was released on bail and is due to be sentenced on August 13.
He has already been placed on the sex offender’s register.
