Investigation launched after huge recycling plant blaze

FIREFIGHTERS spent more than five hours tackling a huge blaze at a recycling plant in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A large amount of rubbish was ablaze when fire officers were called to the centre on Bolton Road, Manvers, at 1.45am.

At one stage, machinery was used to break up the rubbish to allow fire crews to extinguish the flames inside the rubbish pile.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the blaze.

Meanwhile, fencing was deliberately set alight on Wednesday night in North Anston.

Crews were called to Universal Close at 9.20pm to Universal Close and spent half an hour at the scene.

A man had to be helped from a house and treated at the scene because of smoke.

Two fire crews were called to the property on Sorby Road, Swallownest, at 5.40am this morning after a cooker as left on.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire Service said that a man aged 50 to 60 was led out of the smoke-filled property and treated by paramedics.

Fire officers spent 40 minutes at the scene.
