Inquest ordered after Wombwell death crash

AN INQUEST will be held to investigate the circumstances of a fatal car fire. A man, named locally as Mark Cornthwaite, died after the car he was sat in went up in flames.

Firefighters from Tanksersley, Cudworth and Dearne were called to Frederick Street, Wombwell, at around 10.45pm last Tuesday.

The fire was extinguished, however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said.

There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A spokesman for Barnsley Coroners Court said a post-mortem examination was due to be held at the Medico-Legal Centre, Sheffield, on yesterday. 

A date has not yet been set for the inquest.
