The American youngster — a revelation for the Millers at right-back since League One opening day — suffered an achilles problem in last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Burton Albion.

Olosunde hasn’t trained this week but Rotherham are banking on the 21-year-old being ready to face the Owls in the Carabao Cup second round at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Wednesday.

“At Burton, his achilles was sore for the last 20 minutes,” manager Paul Warne revealed. “The physios said he wouldn’t do damage by staying on but would just be really sore the next day. That’s why he played on. Hopefully, he’ll be able to join in training on Monday.”

Olosunde joined in the summer after being released by Manchester United and his flying style up and down the right flank has already made him a fans’ favourite.

Warne needs him for Wednesday’s showdown because his other right-back, Billy Jones, is sidelined with a heel injury.

“The physios are reassuring me that Matt will be available,” the boss said.

“I hope they’re right because Billy’s absence has left us short in that area.”
