Injury concern over Rotherham United duo

Centre-half Michael Ihiekwe picked up a groin injury in yesterday's 4-1 home drubbing of Portsmouth that extended the Millers' unbeaten run to seven games while goalkeeper Viktor Johansson hurt his back.

Ihiekwe is the biggest doubt of the pair, who will be assessed tomorrow, as fifth-placed Rotherham gear up for the visit of the Chairboys who are in second spot.

"My common sense tells me Icky won't be available but you never know," said manager Paul Warne.

"Viktor's problem was like a back spasm. You could see when he was kicking the ball that he was in a bit of pain. I think he has a chance."

Ihiekwe had to come off early in the second half against Pompey but Johansson managed to see out the contest.

If the Swedish keeper is declared unfit, reserve shot-stopper Josh Vickers will make his first league appearance for the Millers since joining the club 11 months ago.

"I'd have absolutely no problems sticking Josh in. He's outstanding," said Warne.

Meanwhile, the boss described Michael Smith's contribution to Rotherham's cause as "colossal" after the striker scored twice against former club Portsmouth to move into double figures for the season.

"He has done all right, hasn't he?" the manager said. "It's nice for Smudge to get two goals and even nicer that they came against his old team. That always means more."

Smith celebrates his 30th birthday today and Warne revealed that the Geordie's partner, Hannah, had arranged a surprise party for him in his home city of Newcastle during the recent international break.

Some of his teammates attended last Saturday' event after managing to keep news of it from the unsuspecting centre-forward.

"I asked the lads what they were doing and they all said going to Newcastle," Warne said. "I asked Icky and he said Newcastle, but his family don't live there so I couldn't work it out.

"When Smudge left the room they told me about the party. Fair play to Josh Vickers, he said sorry for lying about it."

The Millers have been drawn at home to National League Bromley in the FA Cup first round, with the tie to be played on the weekend of November 6 and 7.
