Ineos requests Planning Inspectorate ruling on fracking applications

THE firm hoping to bring fracking to Rotherham has asked the Government to rule on an application to drill in Harthill.

Ineos Shale has written to the Planning Inspectorate over its plans for a 60-metre rig under land off Common Road.

The application, which would see the rig drill down 2,800 metres for shale gas on land off Common Road, was due to be discussed at a standalone meeting of the council’s planning board on November 23.

But Ineos requested further talks with council officers, who were minded to recommend it be refused.

It has now requested the Government make a decision on the applcation.
