The incident happened onboard a train between Rotherham and Doncaster around 11.50pm on Friday, November 19.

Det Sgt Paul Kazimierczyk said that the victim, a 42-year-old man from Conisbrough, had been out with two friends in Rotherham for the evening before they made their way to the station to catch a train home around 11.40pm.

“As they boarded the 23.27 Sheffield to Doncaster service, they engaged in a conversation with another group of men,” he said.

“During the journey, an altercation took place which is believed to have resulted in the victim being assaulted resulting in a suspected fractured cheek bone and the loss of a tooth.

“One of his friends, a 54-year-old also from Conisbrough, attempted to intervene in the incident but was assaulted and punched in the face causing a black eye and cuts to his face.”

The victims left the service at Conisbrough, but it is believed that the suspects stayed on the train which continued onto Doncaster.

Det Sgt Kazimierczyk added: “The group of friends had enjoyed a night out and were simply trying to make their way home when their evening ended in sudden violence.

“The offender is described as being mixed race, aged in his late teens or early 20s with short dark hair and was wearing a grey T-shirt and later a dark hooded top.
