POLICE are hunting for a lorry which drove off from a crash involving two pensioners - one of whom later died.

POLICE are hunting for a lorry which drove off from a crash in Todwick involving two pensioners - one of whom later died.

A blue and silver articulated Scania lorry collided with a grey Mercedes on the A57 Worksop Road near Todwick roundabout and the Red Lion pub at about 12.20pm on January 22, a police spokeswoman.

The heavy goods vehicle failed to stop at the scene and may have then travelled on towards the motorway, she added.

The collision caused minor damage to the Mercedes and left the male driver (76) and a woman passenger (75) shaken.

The woman died later that evening after being taken ill, said the spokeswoman.

As enquiries into the collision continue, police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to contact them.

Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the manner of driving of the HGV and who may have dashcam footage. 

The HGV is believed to have a distinctive blue and silver cab and hitched to a trailer fitted with a green shipping container, said the spokeswoman.
