Huge tyre fire "could last days"

FIREFIGHTERS are still battling a blaze at a tyre yard which sent plumes of black smoke into the sky above Rotherham—and believe that it could be days before they put it out.

More than 30 firefighters manning seven pumps, including one from Aston and another from Rotherham are still tackling the large fire at a tyre yard in the Hampole area of Doncaster, where around 2,000 tyres are on fire.

A spokesman said that it would be days rather than hours before they could extinguish the fire.

Smoke from the scene could be seen for miles around.

Fire officers at the scene are in constant liaison with officials from Doncaster Council, the site operators and the Environment Agency and residents are being told to keep windows and doors shut as an precaution
