HS2 wants to 'involve public' at information events

THE company aiming to build a high speed rail link through parts of Rotherham and the Dearne Valley has said it wants to ‘involve the public’ in the project.

HS2 will hold information events at three venues across the area next week.

The events have already been blasted in the Advertiser by protest groups as a PR stunt but HS2 said they will bring people closer to the project.

HS2 was given permission from the Department of Transport in July to push ahead with the so-called M18 route for the proposed line from Aston and Bramley and up to Mexborough and the Dearne Valley.

Details of the information events are as follows:

  • Tuesday, September 12 —Dearne Valley Leisure Centre, Doncaster Road, Mexborough from 2pm to 8pm.
  • Wednesday, September 13 — Best Western Consort Hotel, Brampton Road, Thurcroft from 2pm to 8pm.
  • Thursday, September 14  — Best Western Aston Hall Hotel, Worksop Road, Aston from 2pm to 8pm.

Leonie Dubois, HS2 Ltd’s head of consultation and engagement for Phase 2b, said: “We want to involve the public as we deliver it, so we are holding 28 public events for people to find out about HS2 and what the next steps are now that the Government has confirmed the Phase 2b route.

“I’d encourage anyone who would like to know what happens now on HS2 to come along.”
