A CHARITY Christmas fair held in a hospital raised over £800 to fund resources making patients’ experiences easier.

The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s Christmas Fair raised £812.55.

Volunteers, fundraisers and colleagues from Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and Unison Rotherham baked cakes, created crafts and staffed stalls.

Millers fans also received a visit from sporting heroes Anthony Forde, Joe Newell and Richard O’Donnell, who helped youngsters from Busy Bees Nursery switch-on the hospital’s Christmas lights.

Martin Havenhand, chair of the charity, said: “We know Christmas can be a struggle for those staying in hospital or visiting their friends and family.

“We hoped our charity Christmas fair would bring a little sparkle to people’s lives and we were delighted that it did.”

He added: “We were really proud to welcome players from Rotherham United, who took time out of their busy training schedule to switch on our Christmas tree lights, and children from Busy Bees lifted our spirits with their beautiful carols.

“Thank you to all our volunteers who helped the event run smoothly, to everyone who donated cakes or gifts and to everyone who attended — we really appreciate it.”

Hospital volunteers have also been selling festive cards and decorations to patients and visitors, raising more than £1,700 so far.
