Horse saved in ditch drama

FIREFIGHTERS have freed a horse which was trapped in a ditch for at least four hours.

The 17-year-old animal became stuck in the hole in a field at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary’s Silverwood Farm at Ravenfield.

The alarm was raised at about 7.30am today by dog walker Jimmy Marshall, who called the RSPCA.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 10.30am and eventually freed the horse an hour later using ropes and a tractor.

The animal is understood to be making a good recovery in stables at the farm.
