A 22-year-old car passenger is still fighting for his life after a crash in Treeton on Sunday afternoon in which ten people were injured.

The man, who was travelling in a Corsa which collided with a Nissan Terrano carrying six children and two adults, is in a critical condition in hospital.

After initially being treated at Rotherham General Hospital he has been transferred to Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The 21-year-old male driver of the Corsa remains at Rotherham General Hospital, but is now said to be stable.

Both men were originally said to have sustained life threatening injuries in the accident which happened at 3.30pm.

The driver of the Nissan, a 35-year-old woman, suffered a fractured ankle in the crash and the front-seat passenger, a 59-year-old man received injuries to his neck and back.

The children, aged between four and 17, suffered minor injuries.

South Yorkshire Police said the collision happened on Wood Lane, in Treeton, about 0.75 miles from the junction with Pleasley Road.
