Horror accident inquest opens

AN inquest was opened an adjourned into the death of road crash victim Marjorie Webster.

Mrs Webster (72), of Melton Avenue, Goldthorpe, was killed last Thursday after her broken down car was hit from behind by a large goods vehicle on Barnsley Road at Hickleton.

She had been married for 50 years, had no children and worked as a PA for more than 30 years.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Doncaster Coroner’s Court on Tuesday.

Police revealed that Mrs Webster and her passenger, also a 72-year-old female, had called the breakdown services and were inside the green Toyota Avensis when it was hit by a silver Mercedes large goods vehicle.

The car overturned and the LGV struck a tree before coming to rest.

The passenger suffered slight cuts to her face and was treated at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, but not detained.

The LGV driver, a 38-year-old man from the Barnsley area, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information about the incident which happened around 500 yards east of the junction with Red Hill Lane at Hickleton.
