"Home and away we have played well against them and taken six points off possibly the best team in the league" ... Paul Warne reacts to Rotherham United being League One top-dogs again

The Millers beat Ipswich Town by only a solitary goal but could have scored at least four times as they dominated the contest against a team that had arrived at AESSEAL New York Stadium in first place themselves.

"We were excellent," said Warne after Richard Wood's 42nd-minute header had given Rotherham their sixth win in seven league outings. "I enjoyed watching us. We were as good as we could be. We worked really hard out of possession. It was a really good team effort."

The Millers responded perfectly to last weekend's 2-1 setback at Peterborough United, although Warne played down the significance of being at the summit of the table again.

"Being top of the league doesn't mean anything," he said. "I was disappointed about last Saturday.

"We had had a lot of soul-searching yesterday (Monday) and changed it tonight. That is the joy of having a competitive squad.

"We didn't get as many goals as our play deserved. We were more than deserved our win against an excellent side.

"Home and away we have played well against them and taken six points off possibly the best team in the league."

The Tractor Boys almost stole an equaliser at the death when Rotherham goalkeeper Dan Iversen thought the ball was going out only to see Ipswich substitute James Norwood hit the post from the tightest of angles.

"We needed that second goal," Warne said. "We had a heart-stopping moment at the end. If that had crept in it would have been harsh."

The triumph was even sweeter for the Millers manager as he supports Town's great rivals, Norwich City.

"I was getting Ipswich fans singing at me," he grinned. "I don't know what they were singing. It must have been Norwich related.

"I have had a few texts from my Norwich mates today. One of them said he had to have his dog put down today and the only way he would feel better was if we won.

"So I dedicate this win to my friend's dog."
