Herringthorpe Playing Fields travellers expected to leave tomorrow, says RMBC

TRAVELLERS camped on Herringthorpe Playing Fields are expected to leave tomorrow, Rotherham Borough Council has said.

Half a dozen caravans arrived at the site — the main car park for this weekend’s Rotherham Show — on Sunday.

Polly Hamilton, the council’s assistant director for culture, sport and tourism, said: “There is a small number of vehicles located in the corner of the playing fields, away from the designated car parking for the show.

“Council officers and police visited the site yesterday morning and have started the necessary legal process for an unauthorised encampment.

“We expect the people on site to vacate on Wednesday.

“The car park for the show is unaffected and will be open for the show as normal, with a £3 parking charge and attendants on site.”
