Help available for students disappointed with exam grades

HELP is at hand for students who fail to get the grades they hoped, a health trust is reminding them.

School nurses are urging pupils to keep their hopes up and not compare themselves with friends.

And if exam performance causes anguish, staff at the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CAMHS) are available to chat.

The advice comes the week that A-level results are due to be announced — and one week before GCSE grades are released.

Barbara Murray manages CAMHS for the Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Trust (RDaSH).

She said: “Receiving exam results can be a stressful time. If a young person receives grades lower than they were expecting there is always help at hand.

“Whether it’s taking exam resits or looking at different opportunities, there are always alternatives.”

Barbara added: “If you are a young person, or know a young person, who has got lower grades and is feeling upset about them, please encourage them to get in touch with us — we can offer them help and support.”

Students can access help through CAMHS by calling 01709 304808 in Rotherham, 01302 796191 in Doncaster or 01724 408460 in North Lincolnshire.

Doncaster CAMHS staff also have a drop-in clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout August, from 10am to 4pm, at East Laith Gate House, Doncaster.
