Harley Davidson send-off for bride Lynn

MOTOR-BIKE mad newlyweds Alan Jenkinson and Lynn Jaap marked their special day with a 60-strong rally.

Throbbing engines replaced traditional ringing church bells on the couple’s big day when they were joined by dozens of fellow Harley Davidson fans for a dramatic cruise from their home in Dinnington, to Rotherham Register Office last Saturday .

Lynn led the way as a passenger in a 1957 pink Cadillac, as the convoy literally stopped traffic along its ten-mile route.

Alan, who works for St Leger Harley Davidson, in Balby, rode his machine into town.

He said: “It was a fantastic sight. To have 60 Harley Davidsons and all our friends together on our wedding day was just what we wanted and the ride into town was a great start to a great day.”

Alan (50) and Lynn (45), of Marbeck Close, Dinnington, met five years ago thanks to their joint love of Harleys.

The couple were both part of the same owners’ club and regularly arranged events together.

Last year Lynn was planning a surprise Harley Davidson rally to mark Alan’s 50th birthday, but when she let her secret plan slip, Alan popped the question, proposing that the rally went ahead...on their wedding day.

The couple tied the knot before heading to a camp site at the Breighton Ferry pub, near Selby, to party the night away with fellow bikers at an event packed with live music.

The following day, Alan celebrated his 50th birthday.

He admitted: “We spent our wedding night in a tent decorated with balloons and streamers. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but we had a great time.”

While making their way into town, the convoy of bikes was given an impromptu helping hand from a police officer.

Alan said: “We saw this police car up ahead and, when he clocked us in the mirror, he put his blue lights on.

“Everyone feared the worse but, rather than pulling anyone up, he took control of the route and stopped the traffic on a couple of roundabouts for us. It was great. A really nice gesture.”

Alan and Lynn are dispensing with a proper honeymoon.

They have just returned from a 2,500-mile round trip to St Tropez in the South of France on their Harleys and they have also got a family trip to Cornwall lined-up.
