Guilty verdict for former Millers star

The 34-year-old former striker is said to have acted as a “middleman” who have already been convicted of match-fixing.

He and former non-league player Moses Swaibu pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery at Birmingham Crown Court, but were today found guilty.

Earlier this month the jury were told Mr Swaibu was one of the players targeted by Chann Sankaran and Krishna Ganeshan, who were both convicted of match-fixing last year.

Facey was allegedly a “fixer” who would “cast his net around to find players who might be willing to take part in match-fixing”.

Facey, of Woodhouse Hill, Huddersfield, and former non-league player Swaibu (25), of Tooley Street, London, were both arrested as part of a National Crime Agency investigation into match fixing.

As well as the Millers, Facey has also played for clubs including Bolton Wanderers, Hull City and West Bromwich Albion, Notts County, Tranmere Rovers and Lincoln City.
