Guidance for Rotherham's Young Citizens

SCHOOL leavers can take part in a new scheme teaching them to make a positive impact in the community.

The Prince’s Trust teaches Year 11 school leavers to learn new skills and challenge themselves over the summer holidays in their National Citizen Service scheme.

“All too often young people are viewed negatively by society, as no-hopers or layabouts.

“National Citizen Service will give Rotherham's young people the chance to prove that they can and do make a positive impact in their community.”

The scheme will allow participants to design a project beneficial to their community while going on two weeks of team building, outdoor challenges and group activities.

Mr Kennedy said: “NCS will also give young people the chance to make new friends, build their confidence and gain new skills for future employment or further education.”

The trust also needs volunteers to help run the scheme giving support and encouragement during the course.

Mr Kennedy said: “The Prince’s Trust could not achieve the results it does without the support of our volunteers.

“The Trust’s 5,000 volunteers play a pivotal role in helping young people move forward with their lives.”

More than three in four young people on the Prince’s Trust scheme move into work, education or training.

The NCS scheme will start on July 4 with places being limited. For more information visit www.princes-trust.org.uk/ncs or call 0800 842 842.
