Gritters on standby as Rotherham faces cold snap

GRITTERS are on standby with freezing temperatures and isolated wintry showers forecast for Rotherham this weekend.

Temperatures are expected to plummet over the next few days and Colin Knight, Rotherham Borough Council’s head of highways, said “isolated wintry showers were also possible” overnight on Friday and Saturday.

He said: “Our highways team are monitoring weather conditions and are on standby and ready to go should the need arise.

“We have gritters, drivers and salt all ready to go.”

The Met Office said could fall to around freezing point on Friday night.
