Grandma rises to daredevil charity challenge

A DAREDEVIL grandma who beat cancer is calling on Rotherham thrill-seekers to join her zipwire for charity.

June Stanley (72), of Octivia Close, Brinsworth, is to take part in the first ever zip-wire challenge to cross Endcliffe Park in Sheffield for Marie Curie Cancer Care after recovering from breast cancer 13 years ago.

The pensioner, who is to brave her challenge on October 17, will ascend in a crane before being launched across nearly 900 feet.

The 72-year-old will be travelling the length of three football pitches from the height of six double decker buses.

June said: "I've never done anything like this before, but have been supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care for 13 years, and when I saw this challenge come up I knew I wanted to do it while I could.

“I don't want to look back and wish I'd done it—you shouldn't have regrets.

“After surviving breast cancer, I know that services of charities like Marie Curie can be invaluable to families, and so want to do my bit.

“I'd encourage anyone to sign up—I'm scared of heights but I want to challenge myself.

“If I can do it, you can do it. I only hope I don't get a fit of giggles on the way down the line."

The Marie Curie Cancer Care Big Zip, takes place on Sunday, October 17. For an information pack call Holly on 0114 279 3010 / 07515 135 423.
