A JEALOUS husband told a court this week of his terror after his plan to pay a hitman £300 to frighten away his wife’s lover went horribly wrong.

Andrew Hill (49) told Sheffield Crown Court that he met up with a mystery man and asked him to scare off GP Colin Shawcross (58) hours after his wife Julie she said she was leaving him for the doctor.

But Hill said that the plan had backfired when it ended in Dr Shawcross’s murder—leaving Hill terrified about what could happen to him and his family.

Breaking down in tears, he said: “Whatever had gone off that night, it scared me to bits. I never had any intention for it to happen.

“I was scared stiff for my family if I opened my mouth.”.

Hill, who denies murdering Dr Shawcross, said that he was too scared for his family to tell anyone the truth about the failed plot.

He also claimed that he had received threats in jail while on remand, adding: “One day, I felt an arm on my shoulder and I got a warning, ‘keep your mouth shut.’

Asked if he had murdered Dr Shawcross, Hill replied: “Absolutely not. Not at all. I don’t think I would forget doing a thing like that.”

The trial continues.
