Goldthorpe police officer raises over £10,000 for four year-old’s lifesaving treatment
PC Chris Gibson raised the cash for Oliver Stephenson from Ackworth, West Yorkshire, who was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma at the start of the year,
Getting the fundraising off to a "flying start", PC Gibson organised a marathon auction, with more than 80 young pedigree-racing pigeons - with other auction lots and a raffle adding to the takings.

Hide AdHe said: "When I heard Oliver’s heart-breaking story, I knew I had be involved to try and help the young boy and his family raise over £230,000 for life saving treatment in the US.

"On the day, Oliver’s family were present, along with over 130 racing pigeon breedes and racers and many friends of the family and members of the community."
Prizes on the day included cuddly teddies and short breaks away - all donated by businesses within South and West Yorkshire.

Hide AdPC Gibson added: “The event raised £10,000 for Oliver and his family to help with their trip to America and the ongoing expenses that arise with little Oliver’s care needs.
“The day was full of community spirit, with children even getting involved and helping me auction the pigeons off on stage.
"I am pleased that we are able to help with their journey and to say that the full total of £230,000 has now been surpassed - with my auction event being the single biggest figure donated to the cause.”
The auction in March is the second event that PC Gibson has organised to help children in need.
