The Cosy Cinema — hosted by the Concertina Band Club — screened Tears in the Dust on Sunday.

The film, starring Bolton on Dearne actor Dean Sills, tells the story of one man’s fall into despair and homelessness.

Dean attended Sunday’s event with director Steve Call, actor Keiron Goodwin and props officer Rebecca Sills.

A collection of £40 was made for charity Hidden Voices, which helps people on the streets, and donations were also made to Mexborough social enterprise FoodAware.

Dean and Steve said they were very impressed with the set-up and could not thank the Cosy Cinema enough for showing their film.

“We are very grateful to chairman John Beal and all his team for their huge support,” Dean said.

“It was also great of them to give the proceeds to charity.

“The guys are lovely and it’s great they are bringing movies on the big screen back to Mexborough.”

He added: “As a child I was also watching films at the Majestic Cinema in Mexborough including Jaws.

“Films are meant to be seen on the big screen in all their glory and next month Cosy Cinema are screening ‘Kes’, which should be a fantastic night.”

Tears in the Dust is out to buy on DVD and available on demand in 13 countries.

It can also be seen as a series on freeview channel Sheffield Live! during May and June, aired each Monday at 9.30pm.
