Georgie Kelly rescues draw for Millers ... on-the-whistle report: Doncaster Rovers 2 Rotherham United 2

ROTHERHAM United twice came from behind against Doncaster Rovers to preserve their unbeaten pre-season record tonight.

The clash at the Eco-Power Stadium pitted the Championship Millers against League Two Rovers but there was little to choose between the two teams who were in the same division last year.

Hakeem Odofifin cancelled out Doncaster's first-half opener and Georgie Kelly struck in the second to restore parity again after the home outfit had taken the lead again.

It was a good workout for Rotherham who need to sharpen up and add to their numbers before second-tier opening day a week on Saturday.

The draw saw them rack up a sixth summer match without defeat.

Manager Paul Warne walked out on the pitch before kick-off to applaud the travelling supporters and received a warm reception for his trouble.

The first sight of the goal went to the home side when new boy Luke Molyneux - the attacker who played so well for Hartlepool United in last season's Papa Johns Trophy semi-final against the Millers - flashed a free-kick wide.

Doncaster made the better start and took the lead on 12 minutes when George Miller made the most of Adam Clayton's superb ball over the top with a fierce shot.

Within four minutes Rotherham were level as Kelly won a corner as he went for goal with a header and Odoffin headed home Dan Barlaser's delivery.

Temperatures were up in the 80s despite the evening kick-off and there were breaks in play just after the quarter-hour and half-hour mark to allow players to take on fluids.

Just before half-time, Josh Vickers kept the scores level with a stunning save from Trialist B - perhaps better known as Lee Tomlin - who was lurking at the back post and was certain he'd scored with a volley until the goalkeeper deflected it on to the post.

Even Tomlin applauded.

The half finished with Wes Harding forcing a stop from Jonathan Mitchell with a low effort but it was Rovers, looking hugely improved since last season's League One relegation, who headed in at the interval the happier of the two sides.

The Millers fielded a strong starting line-up and once again padded out their bench with academy youngsters as they wait on injured players to return and more new signings to arrive.

With striker Tom Eaves and Josh Kayode sidelined, Chiedozie Ogbene moved in from the flank to partner Kelly up front.

A full-blooded challenge between Ollie Rathbone and Ollie Younger not long into the second half could be felt around the ground and left both men needing attention.

Doncaster fans cheered the commitment of their man and were in even louder voice in the 59th minute when Miller bent a lovely effort beyond Vickers for his and Rovers' second goal.

A third water break halted proceedings as the Millers struggled to find a way back into the contest.

That changed on 76 minutes when Peter Kioso delivered low from the left and Kelly swooped to steer the ball into the net right in front of the Rotherham fans.

Four minutes later, he shaped to scored again but the ball was taken off his head by teammate Jamie Linsday who directed Conor Washington's cross just wide.

The Millers finished strongly but a winner failed to materialise. That was fair on Rovers who didn't deserve to lose.
