Gas used to steal from Thurnscoe cash machine

THIEVES made off with a “significant” sum of money after using gas to force entry into an ATM.

Police said the post office in Houghton Road, Thurnscoe, had been targeted at about 2.30am on Tuesday.

Det Insp Mark Monteiro said: “This is the second incident of this nature at this location in recent months, though the methods used last time were different.

“It’s too early to say at this stage whether the incidents are linked but we’ve had detectives at the scene conducting thorough enquiries and scouring CCTV footage.

“Those enquiries are ongoing and I’d urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact police.”

A spokeswoman added: “A significant sum of money was taken during the incident.

“The suspects are believed to have been wearing all black clothing and may have been wearing balaclavas and left the scene in what’s described as a black Audi A4 estate.”
