Gas pipe repairs cause traffic disruption

A MAJOR bus route through Rotherham will remain closed for the next 11 weeks as essential work is carried out on a gas pipe.

The eastbound section of Kilnhurst Road at Rawmarsh closed on Monday  and will remain shut until September 27.

Two of Stagecoach's bus routes will be diverted during the work–the 108 and 218.

The 108 will take the normal route from Rotherham Interchange as far as Haugh Road and divert non-stop via High Street, Bellows Road, Green Lane, Clay Pit Lane and St Nichols Road. It will then return back onto the normal route at Kilnhurst Road.

During this period, the 108 service will not be going down Scovell Avenue, Hague Avenue, Lister Avenue, Thorogate, Old Warren Vale, Warren Vale and the western end of Kilnhurst Road.

The 218 service will operate via the normal route out of Rotherham as far as Dale Road bus depot and then stop at Rosehill Park before diverting via Warren Lane.

The service will then continue via the normal route to Barnsley.

Rupert Cox, Stagecoach Yorkshire commercial director, said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience the diversions will cause our customers but we hope the alternative routes will help to minimise disruption.”
