Garden trail organisers seeking new recruits

A POPULAR garden trail which has raised thousands for charity is on the hunt for new gardens to display.

The organisers of the Swinton Open Garden Trail are appealing for proud gardeners who want to show off their beautiful blooms and neatly-pruned shrubs in this year’s trail.

The event, which is held every June, has raised £20,000 for a variety of charities and is more popular every year.

But organiser Marilyn Tinsley said that some gardeners wanted to take a break for a year to follow the trail themselves, leaving space for new entrants.

“We normally have around 20 gardens but at least five have said that they want a year off so they can enjoy the gardens themselves,” she said.

“So we need some more volunteers who can add to our variety of gardens.

“It’s been hugely popular over the years and we’ve had visitors from Cyprus and the USA who have come to see the gardens while visiting friends and family.

“It doesn’t matter whether you have wonderful flowers and shrubs, a passion for garden ornaments or a veg patch, we have gardens of all shapes and sizes on the trail.”

Anyone interested in signing up for this year’s event is asked to contact Marilyn on 01709 587932.
