Gang in spitting attack on train women

YOBS spat in the faces of two young Rotherham women during an “appalling” incident on board a train.

The women, aged 19 and 20, from Wath, were travelling from Swinton to Rotherham when a group of around 15 teenagers tried to engage them in conversation.

When the women asked the youths to leave them alone, a teenager, described as mixed race and wearing a baseball cap, suddenly spat at them.

British Transport Police Pc Ewan Brechin said: “Shockingly, other members of the group then joined in spitting at them too.

“Both victims got up and went to the driver’s door, the youths followed, surrounded them, and continued to spit on them.

“As the train arrived in Rotherham the group got off and spat at the females as they did so.

“They were left covered in spittle and understandably extremely traumatised and angry by this absolutely appalling behaviour.”

The incident happened at 9.30 pm on Friday, April 8 on the Leeds to Sheffield service.
