Police officers are appealing for information following the incident at Sainsbury's on Flanderwell Lane at around 10pm on Monday.

Four men are believed to have entered the store with crowbars and a knife, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said.

"One of the men threatened staff with a crowbar to open the safe and give him cash," said the spokeswoman.

"Three of the men remained on the shop floor where they forced open two of the tills.

"The suspects fled the scene with a substantial amount of cash."
