SCOUT groups from across the Rotherham district gathered in the town centre to honour the patron saint of the movement.

Beaver colonies, Cub packs, Scout troops and Explorer units took part in the annual St George’s Day parade last week which culminated in a salute at the town hall.

Children from all sections and their leaders paraded around the town centre in uniform with their group flags to honour the patron saint of Scouting — who is also celebrated as the patron saint of England at this time of year.

All members had the chance to renew their Scout promise and the event included a performance by the Sheffield Pipe Band.

Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scout movement, chose St George as patron saint because he felt he represented faith, courage and perserverance.
