From parks to markets, all Rotherham Council's Christmas opening hours

HERE is all you need to know about when council services will be available over Christmas and new year.

From 8pm on Friday December, 22, council essential services will be taking emergency telephone calls only. Emergency services are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

 

To report an emergency to the council, phone: 

  • Emergency council house issues and repairs: 01709 336009
  • Emergency highways issues: 01709 336003
  • Children and young people’s services: 01709 336080
  • Adult social services: 01709 822330
  • Any other emergency: 01709 336009

If you feel that a child or young person is in immediate danger, please phone 999.

Normal services will resume at 8am on Tuesday, January 2.

Crisis loans

Crisis loans are available from Laser credit union on 01709 836500.

  • A direct application 9am to 2pm (with an answerphone facility available out of hours or during busy times)
  • Loan appointments 9.30am to 2pm 

Bin collections

All households should have received a calendar informing residents of collection days.

Your Christmas waste can also be taken to any household waste recycling centre.

From Saturday, December 23, to Monday, January 1, if you are homeless, or know someone who is, contact the council on 07748 143170.

 

Registration service

The service has a statutory duty to provide specific services during this time, notably death registration and the delivery of celebratory services. Other services will be limited or withdrawn.

Death registration: Wednesday to Friday, December 27 to 29: open

Celebratory services: Wednesday to Sunday, December 27 to 31: open, including services at Clifton Park Museum.

Notices of marriage will be taken if required: Wednesday, December 27 to Friday, December 29.

Birth registration: Wednesday, December 27, to Sunday, December 31: closed

Marriage/civil partnership by registrar generals licence: Saturday, December 23 to Monday,  January 1: available

Other organisations providing help and assistance:

The Silver Line is an organisation that offers a telephone befriending service to older people. They will be open over the Christmas period and it gives a lonely older person someone to talk to.

Samaritans offer a safe place to talk at any time. Call 116 123 free from any phone, 24 hours a day seven days a week.
